When Deepika Padukone was asked to act in the Indian film "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" in 2016, it was widely reported that she faced many attempts by her director to coerce her into performing sex scenes with him. This caused a stir in India’s conservative culture, since they consider it the highest form of disrespect for women to ask them to perform sex acts on camera. So what's Western media doing when they report on sexual coercion cases like these? Focus more on their victimization than on their perpetrator or any moral implications. For example, in the Deepika Padukone sex comics narrative, all media outlets have focused on is how it's wrong for female celebrities to do sex scenes for movies, while the real issue is that men of power are asking them to do it. Worse still is the fact that Western media has also focused on how women are being objectified by men who are telling them to undress for cameras. But I have always wondered if they think these women are so stupid they don't realize they're being objectified or coerced? Do they think these talented actresses really don't get it? Or that audiences can't tell about their sexual objectification? The hypocrisy in this argument is astounding. To me this is just another example of how Western media tries to distract people from the real issue by criticizing women for being sexualized. It reminds me of the time when Donald Trump was accused of sexual misconduct on women, but the media focused more on how his victims were women, or on their victimization than on his actions or any moral implications. It's like they think people are so stupid they don't get how wrong it is for power men to sexually harass and coerce women into sex (like in Deepika's case). But I think you get it. That's why some countries like India already have laws against these things but America doesn't. And thus it's really no wonder why women are so afraid to speak up. They're afraid of consequences. And what's even more alarming is that this also happens in the West. The only thing that changes is that rich powerful men do it to celebrities, instead of poor powerless men like Donald Trump did. Our society has failed these women by not protecting them against these rich male predators, who take advantage of their vulnerability and powerlessness to get what they want. This is why it bothers me that Western media has always tried to paint all men as predators who are out to sexually assault or coerce women, creating a victim-blaming culture. But it's more of an American culture of victim blaming. The result is that women are taught to be afraid of men, which makes all of us vulnerable to sexual predators who can take advantage of our vulnerability and powerlessness. That's the real issue here. And I think our society needs to change by not blaming women for being sexualized, but instead focusing more on the real issue of who these powerful male abusers are and why they target them. cfa1e77820
